What Is It?

Modern and contemporary dance is all about expression — grounded, flowing movement that lets dancers explore weight, breath, and emotion in a way classical styles don't always allow. It builds strength, control, and a deep connection between music and feeling, giving dancers freedom to interpret and create. For many students it's where technique and artistry finally come together.

At Productions, contemporary and modern movement lives within our Youth Contemporary classes for dancers roughly ages 8 through 17. It's an emerging part of our program, so classes stay focused and personal, with room for each dancer to develop their own voice. Grounded in the same strong technique we teach across styles, contemporary offers an expressive, welcoming outlet for dancers who love to move with meaning.

Levels & Progression

Modern and contemporary dance at Productions is offered through our Youth Contemporary classes, an emerging area of our program. Dancers get a focused, expressive entry point:

  1. Youth Contemporary The home for modern and contemporary technique (ages ~8–17), building grounded, expressive movement and artistry.
  2. Youth Contemporary + Acro Combo For dancers who want to blend expressive choreography with acro skills.

As this genre grows, dancers deepen their technique and expression over time; a foundation in ballet or jazz strengthens contemporary work.
