What Is It?

Hip hop is high-energy, expressive, and endlessly fun — a style built on groove, attitude, and individuality. Dancers build coordination, rhythm, stamina, and confidence while learning real movement vocabulary, the culture and origins of the style, and even an introduction to breaking. It's a fantastic way for kids to channel energy and discover their own flavor of cool.

At Productions, hip hop grows with dancers from around age 5 through the teens. Little ones start with Mini Bop, then move into Youth Hip Hop and Jr/Teen Hip Hop as they build skills, with a seasonal Hip Hop with TikTok class that keeps things fresh and current. It's welcoming, upbeat, and no experience needed — just come ready to move and be yourself.

Levels & Progression

Hip hop at Productions builds from playful first grooves into sharper technique and style, with a pathway by age:

  1. Mini Bop Our youngest hip hop class (ages ~5+), full of rhythm and fun.
  2. Youth Hip Hop Building foundational moves, musicality, and confidence.
  3. Jr/Teen Hip Hop Advancing style, technique, and choreography, with the history and origins of the form and an intro to breaking.
  4. Hip Hop w/ TikTok A seasonal class centered on current, trend-driven choreography.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will hip hop dancers perform?

+

Definitely. Hip hop classes feed our Winter Holiday Show and Spring Production, so dancers get a real stage to bring their energy.

Does the class cover more than just choreography?

+

Yes. Our hip hop classes introduce the styles, history, and origins of the form, and older dancers get an introduction to breaking.

What shoes should my dancer wear? (hip hop)

+

Clean sneakers or high tops worn only inside the studio — not the shoes they wore in from the street. Keep hair secured and skip jeans or long dresses.

Does my child need experience? (hip hop)

+

No experience needed. Our hip hop classes welcome beginners and build coordination, rhythm, and confidence step by step.

What age can my child start hip hop?

+

Hip hop starts around age 5 with our Mini Bop class, then continues through Youth Hip Hop and Jr/Teen Hip Hop for older kids and teens.
